MLB Teams Asking About Canceling Rule 5 Draft

Teams have clamped down on scouting of minor leaguers currently in spring training camps during the lockout due to uncertainty over the Rule 5 draft. No decision has been made on the major league portion of the Rule 5 draft in 2022. With minor league games set to begin as early as March 12, the situation has left executives wondering how the league plans to handle this case. The league and Players Association have yet to discuss the Rule 5 draft during their talks on a new collective bargaining agreement, and the two sides would need to agree on canceling it this year. Sixteen teams have barred scouts from their complexes this year during the lockout.
