MLB Clears Shohei Ohtani In Gambling Investigation
6 months agoAfter former translator Ippei Mizuhara's guilty plea, Major League Baseball has cleared Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and has closed its investigation, citing the thoroughness of the federal investigation and the criminal proceedings not being contested. "MLB considers Shohei Ohtani a victim of fraud and this matter has been closed," the league said in a statement. MLB considers Ohtani "a victim of fraud" at the hands of Mizuhara and won't suspend him at all. Mizuhara pleaded guilty to bank and tax-fraud charges. It always seemed like a long shot that the 29-year-old MVP would be suspended by the league, but now it's official. Despite the ongoing investigation, Ohtani has remained one of the best hitters in the league and is currently slashing .322/.392/.596 with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases in his first 58 games with the Dodgers.
