Mixed Results For James Karinchak So Far This Spring
4 years agoCleveland Indians relief pitcher James Karinchak has had an up-and-down spring so far. Karinchak has made seven appearances so far, pitching 6 1/3 innings while allowing six hits, five walks, and four earned runs with 13 strikeouts. The ability to miss bats is evident- 48.6 percent strikeout rate in 2020- but the command issues continue to be a problem for the 25-year-old, who posted a 14.7 percent walk rate last year. Karinchak is the favorite for the ninth-inning role in Cleveland- though manager Terry Francona has yet to declare his closer. Karinchak has massive upside if he earns the role but is being drafted as if he's the surefire closer in Cleveland right now with a 98 ADP.
