Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner notched the lone assist on Patrick Marleau’s second goal just six minutes into Game 7 on Wednesday night. In doing so, Marner was able to extend his point streak to six games, but with the Leafs loss, he won’t have the opportunity to extend it further. On a personal level, Marner has enjoyed an extremely successful sophomore season, which is famous for a noticeable regression in many young players. He led the Maple Leafs in scoring in the regular season with 69 points and did so again in the postseason, recording nine points, nearly double his next closest teammate. Marner was impressive in this series and often drove the play for the Leafs. Unfortunately, they couldn’t complete the comeback against the Boston Bruins to advance to the second round.--Kevin Acorn
