Mitch Keller Struggles Against Blue Jays on Monday
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller struggled in his spring debut against the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing two runs on three hits with a strikeout in one inning of work. Keller struggled with his command as he recorded 11 strikes on 21 pitches, with only three of those strikes being either a called or swinging strike. 2020 was a step back for Keller in his second season, as he recorded an 18.4 percent strikeout rate and a bloated 20.7 percent walk rate while his 6.07 xERA was significantly worse than his 2.91 ERA. It's only the beginning of spring and there will be plenty of chances to show improvement, but it was not a good start for Keller, who remains, at best, a late-round flyer in 12-team and deeper leagues.
