Mike Clevinger Dealt To Padres In Nine-Player Deal
4 years agoFollowing up on an earlier report, starting pitcher Mike Clevinger has been traded to the San Diego Padres as part of a massive nine-player deal. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Indians will be sending Clevinger, outfielder Greg Allen and a player to be named later to the Padres. In return the Padres will be sending first baseman/outfielder Josh Naylor, catcher Austin Hedges, starting pitcher Cal Quantrill, the Padres number seven MLB Pipeline prospect shortstop Gabriel Arias, the Padres number nine MLB Pipeline prospect starting pitcher Joey Cantillo, and the Padres number 11 MLB Pipeline prospect middle infielder Owen Miller to the Indians. Clevinger's fantasy value does rise as a result of this deal, moving to Petco Park and away from Cleveland where the Indians appeared to be finished with him after he violated team rules related to COVID-19 quarantine protocol. On the season, Clevinger owns a 3.18 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings pitched. While his strikeout rate is much lower than his 2019 strikeout rate of 33.9 percent, Clevinger remains a top-tier starting pitcher for fantasy purposes who should get a further boost pitching in San Diego.
