Mike Clevinger Still Working Up His Pitch Count
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (knee) threw three innings in a rehab outing at Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. He also tossed several more pitches in the bullpen afterwards to get his pitch count up to 60. He is nearing a return to the mound for the Padres, but the team wants him to get up to five innings by the time he gets activated, according to Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. That means we'll likely see Clevinger make another rehab start this weekend and if all goes well, he could be back with the Padres a little over a week from now. What that will mean for the Padres rotation is unclear at this point, especially since Blake Snell (groin) is nearing a return as well. Nick Martinez is likely to get bumped out of the rotation, but it's unlikely the team will take rookie MacKenzie Gore out of the rotation now that he's had two straight remarkable outings to begin his MLB career.
