Mike Clevinger Pitched Through Sinus Infection
2 years agoChicago White Sox right-hander Mike Clevinger (illness) was dealing with a sinus infection during Wednesday's start against the Texas Rangers. Clevinger's fastball sat around 92-94 mph and noted that he was missing an "extra gear" throughout his start. Despite the decreased velocity in his fastball, Clevinger tossed five clean innings despite yielding a solo shot to outfielder Clint Frazier. He struck out three batters and granted just one walk. Clevinger avoided serious repercussions after reported allegations of abuse, but the 32-year-old will not serve a suspension. He signed with the White Sox on a one-year, $8 million deal in the offseason, and is expected to play a vital role in the team's rotation. In 2022, he posted a 4.33 ERA across 22 starts with the San Diego Padres and hopes to turn things around in 2023.
