Mick Abel Struggling At High-A
5 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitching prospect Mick Abel has gotten off to a rough start at Triple-A this season. Through 41 ⅔ innings, the 22-year-old holds a 6.26 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and 30:37 BB:K ratio. Abel got a brief taste of Triple-A last summer as he tossed only four ⅔ innings. Abel has flashed elite strikeout numbers all throughout the minor leagues, highlighted by an incredible 130 punchouts in 108 ⅓ innings in 2022 and 132 punchouts in 113 ⅓ innings last season. For the first time in his career, Abel is on pace to tally under a strikeout per inning. This is something to monitor in dynasty leagues, as Abel was projected to reach the major leagues later this summer. This promotion could be delayed due to his poor start. However, this does open up a small buy-low window for dynasty managers interested in acquiring the former 15th overall pick. If Abel can begin to turn his season around, he could join the Phillies during the second half of the season.
