Mick Abel Hit Hard
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitching prospect Mick Abel got hit hard on Wednesday. Abel, 21, has had an up and down season for Double-A Reading, but last night's performance was by far his worst of the season. In five innings, Abel allowed six hits, eight runs, two walks and struck out seven. His biggest blemish of the evening were the four homers that he allowed. Abel has shown plenty of flashes throughout his minor league career and even started the futures game last month. He is now 3-5 with a 4.94 ERA, but has 103 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings. The 6'5 hurler is unlikely to make the Phillies this season, but he should have a pretty good chance to crack next years rotation with a strong finish to the season and good showing in Spring Training. One of the best arms on the farm, Abel should be rostered in dynasty leagues with his ability to rack up strikeouts, while continuing to improve his secondary pitches.
