Michael Pineda "On Track" For September Return
6 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Pineda (elbow) is getting closer to returning to the mound. According to Twins beat writer Mike Berardino, Pineda is set to throw his second simulated game and — if setback-free — is in line to throw a couple of rehab innings in the minors in August. It's been a little over a year since Pineda had Tommy John surgery, and if all goes well the big right-hander is on track to join the Twins in September, as the regular season reaches its end. The Twins are currently still alive — mathematically, at least — in the chase for the American League Central, but unless something disastrous happens to the Cleveland Indians, their prospects to make the playoffs look grim. That said, Pineda has flashed good potential in the past and could bolster the Twins rotation, if he returns to form. That said, he is not on the standard fantasy radar just yet.
