Michael Perez Should See Increased Playing Time
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays catcher Michael Perez has been through a lot in the last couple of days. He was catching in Triple A for the D-Backs before being traded to the Rays. Perez is now on the Rays 25-man roster and collected his first MLB hit on Thursday. Wilson Ramos (hamstring) is still sidelined, so Perez and Jesus Sucre are the two catchers in Tampa right now. It's likely that Perez will see a bulk of the starts since he is young and the Rays want to see what they got out of the trade. Sucre is more of a backup type catcher, so there is a good chance Perez continues to see regular playing time until Ramos returns. Perez should be worth a look in AL-only leagues and possibly more if he continues to hit and draw starts behind the plate.
