Michael McDowell Could Surprise With Another Top 10 at Charlotte
6 months agoWith track position being so important with this Next Gen car, qualifying has become even more important in the NASCAR Cup Series. The good thing for Michael McDowell is that he is having a career year when it comes to qualifying, as his average starting position this season is 13.1--significantly better than his career average of 25.1. This weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, McDowell qualified ninth for the Coca-Cola 600, and he could be a sneaky play for a top-10 finish yet again. McDowell walked away with an eighth-place finish here at Charlotte in the 2022 Coca-Cola 600 and he also grabbed a top-10 result at Kansas earlier this month (another low-wear, 1.5-mile track) after qualifying eighth. All McDowell needs is some track position late and he could challenge for a top-10 result on Sunday evening.
