7 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer was exceptional in Sunday's game against the Pirates, but got no offensive support whatsoever. The hard-throwing righty tossed eight innings of one-run ball, scattering just four hits and striking out three. It goes in the books as a quality start, but his teammates couldn't help him come away with the win. It's a good first outing for Fulmer, who had elbow surgery at the end of last season. He's the ace of the Tigers rotation and should continue to perform as such, but if the offense doesn't help out it will limit his fantasy value in the W column.--Tyler Germain - RotoBaller

4 months agoAccording to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Boston Red Sox could stretch out right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer and deploy him as a starting pitcher during the 2025 season. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that the team is exploring ways to stretch out Fulmer, and it's a decision the team feels "confident in." Fulmer missed the entire 2023 campaign due to a UCL revision surgery but is expected to be a full-go for Spring Training. The former 2017 American League Rookie of the Year has not started a game since the 2021 campaign. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the right-hander held a 3.88 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP out of the bullpen. If Fulmer performs well during Spring Training, he could be worth a look in AL-only formats, especially if given a spot in the rotation.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

6 months agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Michael Fulmer (elbow) has begun to throw off of a mound and is on pace to be ready for spring training, barring any setbacks. Fulmer last pitched in the majors in 2023, missing all of the 2024 season after undergoing UCL surgery. The 31-year-old was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2016 but missed all of 2019 after having Tommy John surgery that year. While he came into the league as a starter, more recently he's worked as a reliever, and that is where he's expected to help Boston next season should he make the team in the spring. He's currently signed to a minor-league deal with the team.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

1 year agoThe Boston Red Sox signed free-agent right-hander Michael Fulmer (elbow) to a two-year, minor-league deal on Thursday. Fulmer won't be on the fantasy radar at all in 2024, as he's expected to miss the entire season after having UCL revision surgery. The 30-year-old will then serve as relief depth for the BoSox in 2025. The former first-round pick and American League Rookie of the Year in 2016 with the Detroit Tigers went 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA (4.15 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, two saves, 28 walks and 65 strikeouts in 57 innings over 58 appearances (one start) for the Chicago Cubs this past season. Fulmer began his career as a starter, but injuries have forced him into a full-time relief role at this point of his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoChicago Cubs right-hander Michael Fulmer (elbow) underwent right-elbow UCL revision surgery on Thursday and is expected to miss the entire 2024 season as a result. Fulmer is scheduled to be a free agent after the World Series, so he may have to wait a while before signing with a team once he proves he's on track in his rehab. The 30-year-old reliever and former American League Rookie of the Year with the Detroit Tigers in 2016 went 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA (4.15 FIP), 1.33 WHIP, two saves, 28 walks and 65 strikeouts in 57 innings over 58 appearances (one start) in his first year for the Cubs in 2023.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
