Michael Chavis Will Not Play In The Outfield
4 years agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Michael Chavis will not get a shot at playing in the outfield if Franchy Cordero is not ready for Opening Day, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. Cordero had missed most of camp due to testing positive for COVID-19, and Browne reports that manager Alex Cora says Chavis will not be an option in the outfield if Cordero needs more time. Cora said that instead, the bulk of the playing time would go to either Marwin Gonzalez or Kike Hernandez if it's necessary. Chavis has looked good this spring with a .400 average and two home runs through seven games, but it appears he may be on the outside looking in for a roster spot/regular playing time right now.
