Mets Willing To Go To $300 Million To Sign Francisco Lindor
4 years agoThe New York Mets are reportedly willing to go to $300 million to lock up shortstop Francisco Lindor on a multi-year contract. Extension talks between the Mets and Lindor have taken place, but there has been no real movement by either side toward ultimately reaching a deal. Both Lindor and the Mets have stated that they will not negotiate after Opening Day. That said, this news gives reason for optimism that the Mets will get a deal done with Lindor within the next two weeks. It signifies that the Mets realize Lindor will command at least a 10-year deal in excess of $300 million and that they would be willing to go that high to get a deal done. Alternatively, if a deal is not reached, Lindor could leave New York once his contract expires at the conclusion of the 2021 season when he hits free agency. Although Lindor had a down year in 2020 while slashing .258/.335/.415 with just eight home runs and 27 RBI, expectations are high for him in 2021 hitting in the potent Mets' lineup.
