11 months agoThe New York Mets are reportedly preparing a "very serious offer" for Japanese free-agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It's certainly no surprise to see the deep-pocketed Mets making a big-time bid for one of the top international free agents of all time. The 25-year-old right-hander has rattled off three consecutive Nippon Professional Baseball MVP awards with the Orix Buffaloes and is coming off a 2023 season that saw him work to a tidy 1.21 ERA across 23 starts with 169 strikeouts against 28 walks in 164 innings of work. The Mets have met with the star pitcher twice, but the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Phillies, Giants, and Blue Jays are among the clubs that remain in pursuit of Yamamoto.--Brenton Kemp
