Mets Make Mychal Givens A Free Agent
2 years agoThe New York Mets declined relief pitcher Mychal Givens' $3.5 million mutual option for the 2023 season on Wednesday, according to general manager Billy Eppler. Givens is now a free agent. The Mets acquired Givens from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline in early August, and he had a 4.79 ERA (4.22 FIP), a 1.45 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and six walks in 20 2/3 innings over 19 outings (one start) to close out the regular season. The 32-year-old journeyman reliever has now played with six different teams in the last three years and could add another team to the list. He does have 31 career saves in eight big-league campaigns, but Givens is unlikely to land a closing gig if/when he signs with another team this offseason.
