Mets Designate William Woods For Assignment
2 years agoThe New York Mets designated right-hander William Woods for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Adam Ottavino. The Mets claimed Woods off waivers from the Atlanta Braves in November, but he could be on the move again already. The 23-year-old made his major-league debut for Atlanta in 2022 but only pitched two innings in relief, allowing two hits while walking one and striking out two. He wasn't quite as good in three minor-league stops, though, posting a 6.04 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 27 strikeouts and 11 walks in 24 outings (two starts) over 25 1/3 innings pitched. Woods should be picked up by another team on the open market if he clears waivers.
