Mets Agree With Nick Madrigal
54 seconds agoThe New York Mets agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million deal on Friday with free-agent infielder Nick Madrigal, pending a physical. Madrigal can make an extra $500,000 in incentives. The former fourth overall pick by the Chicago White Sox in the 2018 MLB draft out of Oregon State University has not lived up to his draft stock at all. The 27-year-old spent only two big-league seasons with the White Sox before landing with the Chicago Cubs. In his five big-league campaigns, he has a career slash line of .274/.323/.344 with a .667 OPS, four home runs, 77 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 96 runs scored in 285 games played. Madrigal played in only 51 games in 2024 due to a fractured hand and hit a career-low .221 with no homers and 10 RBI. He has decent speed and good contact skills but hasn't played 100 games in a full season yet. Madrigal will operate as infield depth for the Mets in 2025.
