Merrill Kelly Strikes Out Five In Win Tuesday
4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly put together his best outing of the year on Tuesday night, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings of work against the Padres. Kelly had entered Tuesday with a 7.71 ERA, having allowed six runs in two of his four starts to open the season. It's good to see this kind of outing out of Kelly, especially against a tough offense in the Padres, but it's hard to have too much confidence in him right now. His next scheduled start is against the Rockies, as he'll try to show improvement from his earlier start against Colorado in which he allowed seven runs — six earned — on nine hits in six innings of work. If he can put together another solid start, then managers can start to look at him as a potential streaming option in deep-mixed and NL-only formats.
