Melky Cabrera Returns To Indians On Minor League Deal
6 years agoMelky Cabrera is back with the Cleveland Indians. The team re-signed him to a minor league deal on Thursday. The veteran will join the organization down in Triple-A Columbus. Cabrera has had an up-and-down 2018. In 17 games with the Indians, the veteran only hit .207 before being designated for assignment. This came after he hit .286 in Triple-A. Once demoted, Cabrera elected to try his hand at free agency instead of returning to Triple-A. While it's uncertain whether he received offers from other teams, Cabrera will now return to the Indians. It remains to be seen whether he can re-capture the magic of his youth — or even anything resembling his 2017 with the Chicago White Sox (.295 batting average) — but he should be left on the waiver wire nonetheless.
