Matthieu Pavon Playing Consistent Golf Heading To Cognizant Classic
2 months agoMatthieu Pavon finished tied for 44th at the Genesis Invitational two weeks ago and is now focusing on preparing for this week's Cognizant Classic, which will be held at PGA National Resort. Last year, in his only prior appearance at the event, Pavon finished tied for 28th. Over the past 12 months, he ranked in the 29th percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is noteworthy because, in last year's Cognizant Classic, over 44% of approach shots came from that distance. While Pavon could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week, including him does come with some risk.

Matthieu Pavon Should Be Avoided At All Costs At TPC Scottsdale
2 months agoMatthieu Pavon is making his tournament debut at the WM Phoenix Open this week. 2025 has been rough for the Frenchman, as he is bleeding strokes on approach, even going back to the end of last season (averaging -1.175 strokes gained on approach over his last eight competitive starts). Through three events in this young season, he ranks 182nd in strokes gained tee to green with an astounding average of -2.181. That's not going to get things done at any venue against the world's best players. For those two reasons alone, Pavon should be left on the bench until there are signs of life in his golf game.

Matthieu Pavon Can Lurk At Major Events
9 months agoMatthieu Pavon has a knack for staying in major events. The French golfer gets to play a course near and dear to his heart. This is one of those weeks where Pavon is a very reasonable DFS option. Pavon finished fifth at the U.S. Open and 12th at The Masters. His overall strokes gained and game has been pretty average for most of 2024. However, despite a 70.64 scoring average (137th), Pavon can heat up on challenging courses. His ability to shoot in the 60's at venues like L'Albatros has to be noted. If his Top-40 approach and Top-50 potential in putting pan out, Pavon could factor into the proceedings at the Olympics.

Matthieu Pavon Could Struggle At The Masters
1 year agoMatthieu Pavon is more of an unknown quantity for The Masters. The French golfer took a few weeks off from the PGA Tour after missing the cut at The Players Championship. Pavon played well in his first four PGA tournaments entered. That included a win at the Farmers Insurance Open and a third at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Now, the Arnold Palmer was more troubling a Pavon missed putts and shots. Combine that with a 76-76 weekend and the red flags were raised. His 69.6% (28th on tour) Greens In Regulation could be vital but Pavon has lost strokes gained the past three events. That is a concern.

Matthieu Pavon Trending In Wrong Direction
1 year agoWhile California proved to the liking of Matthieu Pavon, Florida has not treated the French golfer so well. Pavon won at The Farmers Insurance Open then came close at Pebble Beach (Tied-3rd). Since then, Pavon has been a little errant with shots and his putter. Back-to-back 70's kept him out of contention at the Cognizant Championship. Last week was even worse at Bay Hill. Pavon opened with a 74 then closed with consecutive 76's. The question becomes do we see the golfer who ranks second overall in strokes gained (1.74) or the one who could not string shots together in Florida.
