Matthew Wolff Regresses With The Putter
5 years agoAfter an impressive all-around showing at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Matthew Wolff regressed mightily, specifically with the flatstick. He dropped 5.2 strokes putting on top of losing 1.2 strokes on approach before missing the cut for the third time in his last four events. Unlike Detroit Golf Club, Muirfield Village penalizes players heavily for missing fairways and greens. With the greens only getting faster this coming week, it seems unlikely that Wolff finds his groove again in Ohio. Gaining strokes on approach while maintaining solid stats off the tee would be a welcomed step in the right direction for Wolff this week.

Matthew Wolff True Wildcard At Byron Nelson
3 years agoMatthew Wolff has struggled mightily in 2022. The American golfer has missed four cuts and has three finishes outside the top 60. Wolff managed a tied for 25th last week at the Wells Fargo. Wolff can hit more than 315 yards with ease. The problem is accuracy. The American lands the ball on the fairway just 51.17% of the time. That ranks 200th on tour. Wolff can putt well when he gets the ball in position and gains 0.47 strokes (26th). The American also only makes 3.85 birdies per round. Considering winners at the Byron Nelson lately was making at least 6-7 a round, Wolff again may be facing a tall order.

Matthew Wolff Not Expecting Much At Austin
3 years agoMatthew Wolff has not had an easy time of it and now enters the WGC-Dell Match Play in a group that features Dustin Johnson and Max Homa. This has the potential to be a short stay for Wolff. Consider that Wolff has not cracked the top-60 yet in a 2022 tournament. Also, he can not hit anything with accuracy. Cracking 320-plus yard drives is great (4th on tour). Hitting fairways at a 52.33% rate (190th) is not. Worse, Wolff ranks 165th when it comes to greens in regulation. The young American golfer only has a scoring average of 71.134 this year for a reason.

Matthew Wolff A Complete Fade This Week
3 years agoMatthew Wolff is a complete fade this week at The Players Championship. Wolff has gained strokes off the tee just once in four events in 2022 and has not gained strokes on approach since October of last year. The 22-year-old has great talent, but TPC Sawgrass is not a place that players typically go to find their form. With water in play on 17 of 18 holes, Wolff is more likely to find hazards than a spot near the top of the leaderboard.

Matthew Wolff One To Avoid At Bay Hill
3 years agoMatthew Wolff is coming off one of the worst competitive tournaments of his career. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy shot 17-over par in two rounds at PGA National. He lost four strokes on approach, over four strokes putting and just under four strokes off the tee. The 22-year-old has not gained strokes on approach since the Shriners back in mid-October. Bay Hill is a challenging course that requires players to dial in their irons. Given the trajectory of Wolff's iron game, he is one to avoid this week.
