Matthew Stafford Among Intriguing Week 2 QB Options
5 years agoDetroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, coming off a 385-yard, three-touchdown performance against Arizona on Sunday, could find himself in another favorable matchup this coming week with the Los Angeles Chargers coming to town. It's highly unlikely Stafford consistently attempts 45-plus passes per game going forward, as he has surpassed the 43-pass mark just five times over the past two seasons, but it's very conceivable that the Chargers build an early lead and force Stafford to the air early and often. Stafford looked very comfortable with the new-look Lions receiving corps, targeting three different players at least nine times apiece, including newcomers T.J. Hockenson and Danny Amendola. He's off to an excellent start in his chase to surpass the 4,500-yard mark for the first time since 2013. A much better Chargers Defense will surely pose a bigger problem than the Cardinals did, but Stafford is firmly locked in as a high-upside QB2 heading into the second week of the regular season.
