Matt Vierling Returns To The Starting Lineup Wednesday
1 year agoDetroit Tigers utility player Matt Vierling is back in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Bailey Ober. Vierling didn't appear in Tuesday's 6-0 victory over the Twins but returns on Wednesday to hit out of the three-hole and play third base where he has seen increased time of late. Acquired in a trade with the Phillies this past offseason, the 26-year-old has been solid this season, hitting .267 with seven homers, five stolen bases, and a .711 OPS on the season, good for a 100 wRC+ that grades out as exactly league average. He will carry a five-game hitting streak into Wednesday's action while he's logged three two-hit efforts over his last nine contests.
