Matt Strahm Joins Red Sox
3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox signed free-agent relief pitcher Matt Strahm to a $3 million deal on Sunday. Strahm had a rough 2021 campaign, throwing only 6 2/3 innings due to right knee inflammation while allowing six earned runs in six outings for the San Diego Padres. The 30-year-old southpaw was much better in 2020, posting a 2.61 ERA and 0.87 WHIP while striking out 15 and walking four in 20 2/3 innings. Injuries have been an issue for Strahm the last two years, but when he's healthy, he can be a strong lefty bullpen arm. He has a career 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 260 innings over 157 outings (25 starts) for the Padres and Kansas City Royals in six major league seasons. Strahm won't carry any fantasy value to Boston.
