Matt Shoemaker Viewed As Twins Fifth Starter
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker is already being viewed as a member of the pitching rotation. Manager Rocco Baldelli said the team is ready to pencil him in as their fifth starter after signing him to a one-year $2 million deal just a week ago. He hasn't tossed more than 30 innings in a season since 2017 due to injuries- though he's pitched to a 3.14 ERA over his last 11 starts. Shoemaker possesses an excellent splitter, one that has held batters to under a .200 batting average in each of the last two seasons while logging whiff rates of at least 34 percent during that span. There's no plan to limit his innings as of now, so if Shoemaker can stay healthy and limit the long-ball, he could be a great back-end starter for Minnesota. He's currently going undrafted in most fantasy leagues.
