Matt Shoemaker Takes Tough Loss Sunday
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker took a tough loss on Sunday against the Pirates. Shoemaker pitched 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits while striking out two compared to one walk. The veteran right-hander struggled in the first, allowing two runs, but settled in the rest of the way, putting zeros on the scoreboard for the next four frames. Shoemaker registered a solid 26 percent called strikes plus whiffs mark and induced five groundball outs. He pitched well enough for the win, though the Minnesota bats didn't do him any favors, mustering just a pair of runs. He'll look to build on the effort in his next start against the Royals.
