Matt Shoemaker Shelled For Eight Earned Runs Saturday
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker had his worst outing of the season in Saturday's blowout loss to the Royals. Shoemaker lasted just 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs- eight earned- on eight hits with two walks surrendered and no strikeouts. The 34-year-old right-hander threw 49 of his 68 pitches for strikes and was perhaps living in the zone a bit too much against Kansas City- who jumped on his fastball in particular for an average exit velocity of 104.7 MPH. Shoemaker has now lost three straight starts and has allowed at least two long balls in three of his last four trips to the mound. It won't get any easier in his next start against the Rangers, who are tied for seventh in the majors in home runs.
