2 years agoChicago Cubs first baseman Matt Mervis is set to be promoted to the big leagues and is expected to join the Cubs on Friday when they kick off a home series with the Miami Marlins. It's certainly time for the 25-year-old to show what he can do at the big-league level as he is hitting .286 with six home runs, 27 runs, 27 RBI, and a .962 OPS across 24 games at Triple-A this season. Mervis also clubbed 15 HR while hitting .297 with a .976 OPS across 57 games at Triple-A in the 2022 campaign. This move might come at the expense of veteran first baseman Eric Hosmer as both he and Mervis swing from the left side of the plate at first base while Hosmer has limped to a .657 OPS across 26 games in his first season with the Cubs in 2023.--Brenton Kemp
