Matt Magill Projected To Start 2020 As Closer
4 years agoSeattle Mariners reliever Matt Magill is expected to start the 2020 season as the team's closer. Magill had originally been projected as the Mariners setup man, but Yoshihisa Hirano was recently moved to the injured list after testing positive for COVID-19. Magill posted a 4.09 ERA between the Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners last season but seemed to show improvement after his switch to Seattle. During Magill's time with the Mariners, he had a 3.12 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and struck out 28 batters in 22 1/3 innings. Magill doesn't offer a lot of upside, but with how scarce saves are, he may be worth a flyer until Hirano returns.
