Matt Duffy With A Solid Season Opener
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Matt Duffy drove in the first run of the season for Tampa Bay Thursday versus Boston. He would also come around to score in the decisive six-run eighth inning of the 6-4 victory. It was his first regular season game in 570 days. Also of note, manager Kevin Cash's last decision made about the batting order was between Duffy and Carlos Gomez on who would fill the leadoff spot versus who would bat third. The fact that leadoff or third was the debate involving Duffy should be exciting for those deep league owners who grabbed him. In his last healthy season in 2015, he batted .295 with 12 home runs and 12 stolen bases. Duffy has just turned 27 years old as the 2018 season starts and should be owned in deeper leagues, especially AL-only formats.
