Matt Chapman Receives Qualifying Offer From Toronto
1 year agoThe Toronto Blue Jays officially extended a $20.325 million qualifying offer to third baseman Matt Chapman, ensuring they'll receive draft-pick compensation if he signs elsewhere this offseason. Chapman cooled off considerably after a red-hot start at the plate in 2023 in his second year with the Jays, but he still finished as an above-average hitter with a .240/.330/.424 slash line, 17 home runs, 39 doubles, two triples, 54 RBI, four stolen bases and 66 runs scored in 140 games played. The 30-year-old was also excellent on defense at the hot corner and won a Gold Glove for his work with the leather. Going back to his first full season in the big leagues in 2018, only three third basemen have posted a better WAR than Chapman in Jose Ramirez, Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado.
