Matt Barnes Tests Positive For COVID-19
4 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes (COVID-19) tested positive on Saturday for COVID-19, Tom Caron of NESN reports. Caron adds that the scheduled starter for Saturday's Grapefruit League game — Matt Andriese — has been scratched due to possible exposure. Barnes was Boston's closer last season, recording nine saves in 24 appearances while posting a 4.30 ERA and 30.4 percent strikeout rate in 23 innings. It's unclear how long this will keep Barnes out, but if it's for an extended period of time, Adam Ottavino will likely take over the closer role for the Red Sox. Managers should monitor for any updates on Barnes, but considering he was already being drafted late at ADP 228, managers might want to consider looking at alternative options while drafting.
