2 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes struck out two over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He entered the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. The 32-year-old needed 10 pitches to record his third save of the year. Barnes has struggled this season with a 6.45 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and a 20:14 K: BB across 22 1/3 innings. The right-hander has pitched well as of late, allowing just one run over his last 5 1/3 innings. With Tanner Houck (back) on the injured list, the Red Sox could turn to Barnes as the team's primary closer.
