3 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes is set to make a rehab appearance at Double-A Portland on Wednesday. Assuming the appearance goes well, he is expected to be activated from the COVID-19 related injured list this weekend. Barnes tested positive for COVID-19 on August 30 and he has been following league protocols ever since. The 31-year-old right-hander was the team's primary closer for much of the season before faltering to the tune of a 13.50 ERA in August. Adam Ottavino has taken over as the team's closer and should remain in that role upon Barnes' return.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
