Matt Barnes Inks Extension With Boston
3 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes agreed to a two-year extension with the team Sunday morning. Barnes will be under contract for the 2022 and 2023 seasons for $7.25 million and $7.5 million dollars, respectively. The deal also contains a $1.75 million dollar signing bonus and an $8 million dollar club option for the 2024 season with a $2.25 million dollar buyout. There are also various escalators in the deal. This move ties Barnes to an excellent club for the next several years, in which Boston figures to only get more competitive under Chaim Bloom. Barnes will retain excellent fantasy value in keeper and dynasty formats after excelling in the first half of this year with 19 saves, a 2.68 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 62 strikeouts in 37 innings.
