Mason Miller 2024 Player Outlook: Potential 2024 Closer?
Mason Miller showed flashes of electricity in his big-league debut in the 2023 season before a UCL injury sidelined him for four months. Miller returned for six September outings before his season ended with a rock-solid 3.78 ERA and 27.3% K% with an average fastball velocity of 98.6 mph in 10 appearances, only four of which were true starts. Given his lengthy injury history and limited work in the minors, A's management is moving Miller to a relief role for the 2024 season. With Trevor May retiring this offseason, Miller could potentially step into the closer's role for the A's given how powerful his arm is. While closing for the rebuilding A's isn't exactly fruitful, May did lock down 21 saves last season, good for 23rd in the league despite missing time early due to anxiety. Miller currently sports a 240.30 ADP as the 91st pitcher off the board, a little early considering his new relief role and non-guaranteed closer's spot. Managers would be wise to keep an eye on the situation in spring training before pulling the trigger on Miller, especially that early.

Mason Miller Registers Sixth Save
Mason Miller was asked to take the mound with a two-run lead on Saturday. The A's didn't have to use too many pitchers in this one with Luis Severino throwing eight innings before handing the ball to Miller. The Brewers didn't put up much of a fight as Miller threw a scoreless inning while striking out two batters to earn his sixth save of the season. Miller has been excellent early in the season and is a must-have in all fantasy formats.

Mason Miller Records Fifth Save
Mason Miller earned his fifth save of the season on Wednesday in a 3-1 win over the White Sox. He pitched a flawless ninth, striking out the side in 12 pitches. He's yet to allow a run through six appearances so far this year and has given up only three hits and one walk compared to 12 strikeouts in the six innings. The flamethrower continues to look like one of the most dominant relievers in all of baseball and should get more save chances in 2025 with an improved A's team.

Mason Miller Records Fourth Save
Mason Miller was asked to hold a two-run lead versus the New York Mets on Saturday. The right-hander needed only 15 pitches to finish off this Mets lineup. He gave up a two-out single to Tyrone Taylor, but was able to work around it and record his fourth save of the season. Miller has worked five innings, allowing zero earned runs, three hits, and striking out nine batters. He's an elite closer that should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Mason Miller To Stay In The Bullpen
Mason Miller will remain in a relief role for the team next year and they are "not talking about moving him back into a starting role." Miller, a third-round pick in 2021 out of Gardner-Webb University, came up through the minors as a starter. When the A's decided to initially use him out of the bullpen when he advanced to the majors, they kept open the idea of returning him to a starting role down the road. It looks like that won't be happening now, and you can't blame the A's after the 26-year-old flamethrower developed into one of the most dominant closers in the game in 2024. In just his second year in the big leagues, Miller made his first All-Star team by posting a 2.49 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, his first 28 career saves, 104 strikeouts and 21 walks in 65 innings. Despite being on the A's, Miller is an elite fantasy closer heading into 2025.
