Masataka Yoshida Unlikely To Return Before Wednesday
6 months agoBoston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida (thumb) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Saturday and went 1-for-4 as the DH. He was set to DH again on Sunday for another four at-bats, according to manager Alex Cora. The skipper also said that the hope is Yoshida will be able to rejoin the team at some point the week of June 10, but likely not before Wednesday, June 13. He had been taking live batting practice and hit off a Trajekt machine on Thursday. Yoshida has been on the injured list since April 29 with a left-thumb sprain but could rejoin Boston's starting lineup later this week. The 30-year-old went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a walk on Sunday. When Yoshida returns to Beantown, he'll be the team's primary designated hitter against right-handed pitching.
