Masahiro Tanaka’s Outing Breaks Down Late
7 years agoAfter picking up a victory in his first start of the season north of the border, New York Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka suffered defeat in his first home start of the year on Thursday night. The Japanese native was brilliant for six innings, tossing a shutout as his offense managed one run in the fifth to give him a lead. In the seventh, however, things unraveled and quickly. After allowing a leadoff single, Tanaka surrendered a two-run home run, giving Baltimore the lead. Inducing a ground-ball out on the next batter, he allowed a single before getting pulled. That run would also come around to score, as the Yankees lost 5-2. While recording a quality start, it wasn’t enough for the 29-year-old this time around.
