Martin Truex Jr. Rallies For a Third-Place Finish At Daytona
5 years agoJoe Gibbs Racing's Martin Truex Jr. finished third in Sunday's Go Bowling 235 at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course. Truex started from third and had one of the strongest cars of the day, passing teammate Denny Hamlin for the lead, early in the race. Truex and crew opted to pit at the end of the first stage, foregoing a stage win, and would also stop before the end of the second stage. Unfortunately for Truex, he was caught speeding, and because pit road was closed, he had to serve an end-of-the-longest-line penalty, as the final stage began. Despite losing all of his track position, Truex was a man-on-a-mission and flew through the field. Truex led 10 laps, and the finish was an impressive fifth-straight third-place finish for the No. 19 team.
