Martin Truex Jr. Matches Career-Best Finish At Bristol
9 months agoMartin Truex Jr. finished the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway as the runner-up for the victory on Sunday. Truex ran in the Top 10 throughout most of the entire race and was a contributing factor to Joe Gibbs Racing's dominance at Bristol this week. The driver of the No. 19 Toyota led 54 laps and placed in the Top 10 at the end of the first two stages. Although tire management was a concern for the field throughout this weekend, Truex remained a contender for the win by the end of the race. Despite at one point taking the lead from eventual race winner Denny Hamlin after he caught lap traffic with around 16 laps to go, Truex, himself would fall back to second after struggling to pass more cars outside of the lead lap. Even if Truex failed to win on Sunday, his second-place finish was his best Bristol result since 2011 and his best finish of the season so far. With COTA up as the next Cup race, Truex will seek to continue his great start to this Cup season with now five top-15 finishes in five races.
