Martin Maldonado Returns To Astros
5 years agoThe Houston Astros re-signed catcher Martin Maldonado to a two-year, $7 million deal on Friday, according to multiple people with knowledge of the deal. The defensive whiz played in just 27 games for the Astros last year after being acquired from the Cubs. He's certainly a better real-life player than a fantasy one, as he hit just .213/.293/.378 with 12 home runs, 46 runs and 27 RBI in 101 games with the Royals, Cubs and Astros. Maldonado should be the primary catcher in Houston next season, and he will share time with Garrett Stubbs. Maldonado is more of a low-end backstop in two-catcher leagues because of his defense-first profile.
