Marquez Valdes-Scantling Quiet In Week 10
6 years agoGreen Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught six passes on seven targets for 44 yards in a Week 10 game against the Miami Dolphins. Wide receivers Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison were inactive in the game, so there was hope that Valdes-Scantling could capitalize on the opportunity and have a big game. Despite the defense keying in on fellow wide receiver Davante Adams, Valdes-Scantling was unable to manage much yardage. Part of the issue was that Green Bay really emphasized the running game. However, Valdes-Scantling still showed some difficulty creating separation in 1-on-1 matchups. That is likely to improve as he gains experience. It wasn’t a stereotypical game for Valdes-Scantling, who profiles more as a deep threat. He had one of the highest yards per catch in the NFL. He is fast, has great size, and has shown a knack for coming down with difficult catches. Valdes-Scantling will have a better weeks in the future, but this game demonstrates why there should be some restraint penciling him in as a WR2.
