9 months agoThe Miami Marlins signed Cuban free-agent right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez to a minor-league contract on Friday that includes a non-roster invite to major-league spring training, according to sources. Gutierrez was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery last year and only saw 6 1/3 innings in minor-league rehab appearances in 2023. The 28-year-old appeared in 32 games (30 starts) for the Cincinnati Reds in 2021 and 2022 before going under the knife, and he went 10-12 with a 5.44 ERA (5.61 FIP) and 1.53 WHIP with 117 strikeouts and 70 walks in 150 2/3 frames. Now that he's healthy, he'll give the Marlins some depth for their starting rotation, but there's a good chance he'll begin the 2024 season in the minors with Triple-A Jacksonville.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
