9 months agoThe Miami Marlins signed free-agent right-hander Yonny Chirinos to a minor-league deal on Tuesday with an invitation to big-league spring training. Chirinos spent 2018-23 with the Tampa Bay Rays, so new general manager Peter Bendix is familiar with Chirinos already. The 30-year-old veteran has appeared in 69 games (38 starts) at the major-league level and has produced a 106 ERA+ and 1.20 WHIP. In 20 appearances (nine starts) for the Rays and Atlanta Braves in 2023, he had an offspeed run value in the 87th percentile, a ground-ball percentage in the 71st percentile and a walk percentage in the 65th percentile while posting a career-worst 5.40 ERA (5.43 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP while walking 27 and striking out 53 in 85 total innings.
