Marlins Experimenting With Lewis Brinson In Leadoff Spot
7 years agoMiami Marlins manager Don Mattingly is experimenting with hitting outfielder Lewis Brinson in the leadoff spot this spring, and the outfielder is scheduled to hit first for the second time in camp on Tuesday. After trading Dee Gordon to Seattle over the winter, the Fish have no true leadoff hitter on the current roster. Mattingly has used six different leadoff hitters over the last six games, and Brinson will make it seven on Tuesday. Derek Dietrich, Magneuris Sierra, Braxton Lee, Miguel Rojas, Cameron Maybin, J.B. Shuck and Peter Mooney have also hit leadoff this spring. Brinson was one of Milwaukee's top prospects before coming over in the trade that involved Christian Yelich. While Brinson struggled in his first MLB action, he put up big numbers with Triple-A Colorado Springs and will bring both pop and speed to the top of the order if he sticks there. Brinson will be pretty locked into everyday playing time in 2018, making him an intriguing late-round power/speed guy for fantasy owners.
