Marlins Designate Daniel Castano For Assignment
2 years agoThe Miami Marlins designated left-hander Daniel Castano for assignment on Thursday to make room on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Johnny Cueto. The 2022 season was a tough one for Castano, as he suffered a concussion and also had a small labrum tear in his left shoulder in September. He ended up making just 10 appearances (seven starts) for the Fish, allowing 20 runs (16 earned) on 42 hits (five homers) while walking nine and striking out 20 in 35 2/3 innings pitched. Because there's a good chance he won't be ready for the start of spring training, he could go unclaimed on waivers, at which point he'd be free to sign with any MLB club. Castano has a 3.89 ERA (4.86 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP in three big-league seasons with Miami.
