Mark Melancon Records His First Save Thursday
6 years agoSan Francisco Giants relief pitcher Mark Melancon recorded his first save of the season Thursday versus the Padres. Melancon allowed one hit and struck out one in his outing. Since closer Hunter Strickland (hand) landed on the disabled list, Melancon, Reyes Moronta and Sam Dyson have all recorded saves. Melancon was signed to a big contract prior to last season and could see some run as the closer, but there is no clear closer for the Giants and manager Bruce Bochy could decide to play the matchups. Melancon is worth a speculative add for owners who are chasing saves and who lost out on Dyson. It's unclear at this point if Bochy will give Dyson another chance in the ninth inning after he allowed two runs and was pulled on Wednesday.
